How I’m Boosting My Immune System This Winter With New Chapter

This post is written in partnership with New Chapter, a Vermont-based maker of whole-food vitamins and supplements, however, all opinions are my own. I only work with and recommend companies whose products I love, and I’m so excited to share these with you!

Our immune systems are vital to our health and wellbeing, however, most of us only consider their importance when we start to feel unwell or under the weather. My goal is for myself and my clients is to ensure a thriving and robust immune system, to help enable us to enjoy optimum health all year round!

Why We Get Sick In Winter

One of the most common questions I am asked is ‘why do we get sick in the winter?’, and there are a number of contributing factors as to why we are more susceptible to colds and flu at this time of year:

  • Lifestyle shift: we play hard all summer, having fun on the beach, enjoying cookouts, travelling, and generally being out of routine. The day after Labor Day we are back at our desks, working long hours and managing different stressors, which can be taxing on both our mental and physical wellbeing.

  • Daylight Saving ends: as the days get shorter we are exposed to less daylight, lowering our levels of Vitamin D and Melatonin, both essential for healthy immune function.

  • Breathing warm, dry indoor air both dries out our mucous membranes (one of the immune system’s first line of defence) and means we are constantly exposed to airborne antigens.

  • Stress levels can become high over the holidays and we may reduce our hours of restful and restorative sleep due to work deadlines, holiday parties, increased travel and family commitments.

However, help is at hand from New Chapter’s line-up of immune-supporting supplements. At this time of year I love to uplevel my daily wellness routine and that of my client’s with both Lifeshield Immune Support and Elderberry Force:

Lifeshield Immune Support

The healing and health-boosting power of mushrooms have been used for centuries in traditional medicine, and now clinical research is substantiating these benefits. Lifeshield Immune Support is a potent blend of organic reishi, shiitake, lion’s mane, maitake, poria, turkey tail and chaga designed to boost your immune system, vitality and overall wellness.*

In clinical trials reishi has been shown to enhance immune system modulators, Maitake and Shiitake to stimulate healthy immune reactions (research shows they are even more effective when taken together such as in Lifeshield Immune Support*) and chaga to boost energy production, alongside its immunomodulatory effects.

New Chapter’s Lifeshield Immune Support is DNA tested, certified gluten-free and 100% vegan. I take two capsules in the morning after breakfast as part of my daily wellness routine to support my hard-working immune system.

Elderberry Force

New Chapter’s Elderberry Force combines the antioxidant and immune system supporting benefits* of Elderberry and Black Currant in one gluten-free, sugar-free, 100% vegan supplement that can easily be added to your daily wellness routine. You’ll also always find an Elderberry Powder Pack in my purse at this time of year; I simply add to hot water if I feel under the weather for a great tasting immune booster sweetened only with a little throat soothing honey.

I round out my New Chapter immune system support team with Probiotic All-Flora (a healthy microbiome is key to immune health), Fermented Vitamin C to protect me from free radical damage, and my go-to multi, Every Woman’s One Daily Multivitamin. Combining these with eating an abundance of fresh produce, moving my body daily, managing my stress and prioritizing quality sleep means I can thrive through the winter months and enjoy all the holiday season has to offer.

You can find all of the New Chapter products mentioned here in your local health food store, Whole Foods, CVS, on Amazon, or at www.newchapter.com.
