How to Recover From Too Much Sugar

Happy (almost) Holidays! These tips are designed to help you get back on track if you are indulging (or have already indulged) in Holiday treats that are in abundance at this time of year!

1) Pre-game

There is a lot that you can do the day of a holiday to make sure you don’t go headfirst into the dessert bar. Skipping meals or going hungry during the day is the worst thing that you can do as your blood sugar will be low and your hunger hormones high, leading you to make unhealthy choices when faced with a room full of treats. Instead, eat your usual high protein/medium fat meals with lots of fiber-rich veggies throughout the day, and consider a ‘pre-game’ mini-meal of a small smoothie or veggie sticks and hummus to minimize hunger and cravings.

2) Glucoreg

This is my ‘secret’ supplement that I take on birthdays and holidays when I choose to indulge in sugar or high carbohydrate meals! But be warned, it doesn’t mean you can eat sugar and high carb foods all the time and just chug the bottle – it’s just a little helping hand to help glucose get into your cells to be used for fuel, rather than being stored as fat. You can purchase , and use code H92OON2F9YLZ for a 10% discount.

3) Make Your Next Meal Using the Skinny on Sugar Meal Formula.

The best way to get back on track after high sugar/high carb foods is to eat a meal that sticks to the Skinny on Sugar meal formula – that is 20-30g of protein, 1-2 tablespoons of healthy fats, and as many veggies as you can manage. This will help balance your blood sugar and hunger and satiety hormones and remember you don’t have to wait until Monday to get back on track, you can do it with your next decision.

4) L-Glutamine

L-glutamine is an amino acid that is wonderful for gut healing, but it also helps beat sugar cravings and calms your system after over-indulging. Either add it to your smoothie or mix 1 teaspoon into a large glass of water twice a day to help any sugar hangovers.

5) Ditch the Guilt

Do you know what’s worse for your health than Holiday sweets? Feeling guilty about it. If you’ve followed me for a while you’ll know that following a low sugar lifestyle gives you ‘metabolic resiliency’, meaning you can choose to enjoy treats without it derailing your health journey or metabolism. But even if it was unplanned, it doesn’t make you a bad person. Drink some water, eat some veggies and make your next choice one that empowers your health.
