We all know how challenging it can be to maintain high energy levels throughout the entire day, especially during those mid-afternoon slumps and right now it is busy season for myself and a lot of my clients – so staying energized and focused during the whole day is even more important.
Instead of reaching for that extra cup of coffee or sugary snack, I’ve compiled a list of five natural and effective tips to help you stay energized, switched on and productive throughout the whole of your day:
Stabilize your blood sugar and give your energy levels a boost with an afternoon snack that includes some protein, fibre and fat. My go-to’s include a mini smoothie, Greek yoghurt and berries or an Epic bar or Chomp stick with some fruit and a few nuts. Or for a fun summer option you could try these Strawberry Protein Popsicles.
Dehydration can be so draining for our cognitive function and energy levels, so make sure you are staying hydrated throughout the day. You can be dehydrated before you even feel thirsty so make sure you always have a glass or bottle of water with you at all times. You can infuse your water with herbs or citrus to make it more interesting or add a low sugar electrolyte such as Halo Hydration (shop here and use the code HANWAY20 for a 20% discount).
A quick walk or some light stretching can help get the blood flowing and even boost your brain power. If you can get outside for sunlight and fresh air that’s even better, but just moving around your house, doing some jumping jacks or air squats can be beneficial. You might look a bit strange, but who cares! I have just started using a walking pad in my office which I use if I’m attending a meeting where I don’t have to participate too much or if I’m making phone calls.
Essential oils can be an effective way to boost energy and enhance mental clarity. Aromatherapy with oils like peppermint, citrus, and rosemary stimulates the senses, promoting increased alertness and reducing fatigue. These oils can invigorate the mind, improve focus, and uplift mood when inhaled or applied topically. The natural compounds in essential oils interact with the brain’s limbic system, which plays a key role in regulating emotions and energy levels. You can use a room spray, a diffuser or a roll on and choose one essential or even make your own blend.
If I am super busy and don’t have time to get outside, or even just too tired to move my body (it happens to all of us) I take a 10 minute break on my HigherDose PEMF mat. I love this mat as it has a range of different frequencies to suit your needs, including one that optimizes Theta brain waves (!) to help you feel energized but in a calm and centred way.
