This post is written in partnership with Halo, who make clean electrolytes. All opinions are my own. I only work with and recommend companies whose products I love, and I’m so excited to share my new wellness must-have with you!
If you are reading this you probably already know the benefits of taking daily supplements such as multivitamins, probiotics, fish oil, and adaptogens, but what about a daily electrolyte?
Just recently I’ve added electrolytes to my daily routine (specifically Halo Hydration), and am loving the benefits for all aspects of my health and wellbeing. As someone who works out (hard) for an hour a day, and who takes a daily infrared sauna I am no stranger to sweating (a lot). And for me, chugging plain water after these activities is just not going to cut it – I need to replace the electrolytes and trace minerals to enable me to feel energized and mentally sharp throughout my busy days.
Those instant benefits are one of the things I love about consuming electrolytes – I feel better immediately, whereas the majority of supplements take at least 30 days of consistency for you to feel any benefits.
And it’s not just me who can benefit from consuming electrolytes daily. As a Holistic Nutritionist, I’m passionate about using functional testing to help my clients achieve optimum health, and as such, I’ve seen hundreds of panels showing mineral status in the body. And rarely, do I see a client with optimized mineral balance, even in those who are eating a healthy diet.
So why are we lacking in these minerals? Firstly, we are not getting enough of them in our everyday diets – our soil is over-farmed and does not contain the minerals that it did one hundred years ago, and even the healthiest of diets still does not match the nutrient-dense profile of that of our hunter/gatherer ancestors. Rarely do we consume enough mineral-rich foods such as shellfish, seeds, and organ meats as part of our usual diets, and we also have to consider the diets and farming practices used to produce our animal and fish products (you are what you eat, ate).
And even if we are consuming these nutrient-dense foods on a regular basis, optimal health is not about what we eat, but what we absorb. Processed foods, alcohol, stress, and medications all take a toll on our gut health, and if we are not digesting and absorbing the nutrients in our diets then this can lead to low levels and deficiencies.
Whilst my daily Halo helps me feel better post-workout or post sauna (or as mid-afternoon pick me up that is better for my adrenal health than another cup of coffee) in regards to long-term health and wellness, it can confer huge benefits also for the following aspects of health:
How to include a ‘Halo a day’ as part of your wellness routine? Upgrade your usual morning lemon water to halo to get the same alkalizing benefits plus minerals to love on your adrenal glands (I used to recommend my clients to add Himalayan salt to their water early in the morning, but now I recommend Halo for a more effective electrolyte and trace mineral balance), post-workout or post sauna (or both), or with ice as a mid-afternoon pick me up.
